Implementation Models

Our approach is immersive and therefore requires an implementation model that supports a sustained narrative. Finding the right implementation model is critical to support the deeper learning that can be achieved through this more immersive, student-driven approach.  The following are models we have identified that would fit this criteria.  However, we welcome discussion on new implementation approaches that could be explored.

EXPLO students suturing in medical class

Week-Long ‘Exploration School’

A week-long immersive “Exploration School” where students have the opportunity to select 1 - 2 EXPLO-style exploration courses. This model can work well for schools seeking a high-impact alternative to an outdoor education week.

EXPLO students building a bridge in engineering class

Purpose-Built Elective

A purpose-built elective where students take 5 - 6 EXPLO-style courses in a true ‘Exploratory’ model, aligned with AMLE’s perspective on best practices of high-performing middle schools.

EXPLO students creating a proposal in business class

2-3 Week Unit

A 2- 3 week unit, embedded in an existing course. EXPLO’s courses span a wide variety of disciplines, not just STEM, so this approach could be implemented across diverse course areas, including Health, Art, ELA, Civics, and Science.
